Omar Stevenson, of Bay Shore, pleaded guilty to first-degree rape, according to an announcement from Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney on Tuesday, Nov. 22.

“This defendant exploited a young girl who trusted him as a father figure. While his reprehensible actions can never be undone, hopefully this plea will bring some sense of closure to the child,” Tierney said. “The defendant is expected to serve a substantial prison sentence for his actions, ensuring that he is separated from both the victim and the community.”

Stevenson assaulted the victim on four separate occasions between November 2021 and Dec. 16, 2021, the DA's Office reported.

The crimes were discovered when Stevenson called the victim after the last attack, and the victim's mother found the ringing phone and confronted Stevenson about the reason he was calling her daughter, Tierney said.

The DA's Office said the victim's mother then found inappropriate messages between Stevenson and the victim through the child's social media account.

The child was taken to the hospital, and evidence was collected, according to the report.

Stevenson's DNA was found on the victim's clothing, Tierney said.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on Tuesday, Jan. 17, and is expected to be sentenced to 13 years of incarceration followed by 15 years of post-release supervision, the DA's Office said.
